It’s Gordon’s first pole of 2009, and 68th of his career. With three races to go in 2009, winning the Texas pole keeps Gordon’s streak of 17 consecutive seasons with a pole going strong.
“We weren’t waiting,” Gordon said of finally getting a pole in 2009. “We’ve been really close; there have been times when I really thought we had a pole.”Gordon’s had a love-hate relationship with TMS. He’s generally performed well, but has also had his worst career finishes in Fort Worth. He finally won at the track in April.
Kasey Kahne and Kurt Busch, both driving Dodges with their respective team’s versions of the new Dodge engine, will start second and third, respectively.
Four cars did not qualify and will go home – the No. 37 of Tony Raines, the No. 66 of Dave Blaney, the No. 13 of Max Papis and the No. 09 of Mike Bliss.
